  1. the workable patterns of production are any processes that turn inputs into the needed and/or wanted outputs.

There will always be market forces in the world even in a command economy, even the soviets and Chinese learned this.  With scarce resources market forces set the prices, either in a free market system or in a communist system the market is at work, with the difference being that the systems that try to impede the market from working freely end up with serious illegal goods markets, which functions without sanction of the government, but which function nevertheless.

There is nothing clever, creative, or intelligent about these "alternative systems" because they function under the guise of sharing and equality, but in practice attempt to hinder natural market forces that exist, wasting incredible amounts of resources in the process, and showing an inflexibility that prevents them from acting in a dynamic way so as to increase productivity.  Yeah you  can have production, but productivity suffers, and though you  start by wanting to give everyone a piece of the pie, you destroy your ability to make those pies in a proper and adequate scale.
