Question:

What are the worst possible consequences for not reporting to jury duty?

I would like answers from people who have actually been through this- not just by what the jury summons says. I know so many people who just pretend that they never received the summons and nothing bad ever seems to happen to them...

  1. threatening letter followed by arrest warrant. (over the course of a few weeks)......seriously.

  2. Fines and an arrest warrant.  Maybe you won't go to jail but you will have to pay the fines.

  3. Nothing has happened to me yet.

I live in one county and work in another. It would be very difficult for me to serve on jury duty.

  4. You can be fined and even jailed for contempt of court. They are getting SERIOUS about it in California!!

  5. A large fine and possible jail time (varies by state)...always go to the selection date assigned.  If you want it stay and listen and hopefully you get a chance to be a part of what can be an interesting experience... assuming you get a good case.   If you want out... when the attorneys ask you questions... be confrontational, be the person who hates all groups, racial groups, religious groups.. be adamently for the death penalty for all crimes...etc - you will get out of it, and not be bothered again...because they can't fine you for not being selected.

  6. They will find you, believe me, and you will have to appear in court to show cause; then the judge will decide what fine/jail time you should receive.

And unless you have a really decent, believable excuse, you will do time and pay a large fine. There really is no credible excuse not to serve...people who fake excuses to get out of their civic duty are looked upon with disgust by those of us who have served and also by the court.

EDIT: See all the stress and anxiety you have caused yourself? Wouldn't it have been easier just to be honest and do the right thing and serve? I hope you do a LOT of time and have to pay a BIG fine because clearly, you are faking it just to get out of what you know you should be doing in the first place. Shame on you!
