  1. Call your local County Office, usually at the Courthouse and ask.  They will tell you in detail, or may be able to print something out for you.

  2. If you can't find it anywhere online, then it sounds like you'll have to make a phone call or a trip to your county zoning office.  Look up the number specifically for the zoning office to avoid getting passed around.  Also before you call, find out what the zoning is where your house or barn is because the regulations will be different from zone to zone (like agricultural, 5 acre lots, 2 acre lots, 1/2 acre lots, etc.).  In my experience they don't name these zones like I did above but will call them "conservation" or R-12 or things like that.  Hopefully you can find that out from your parents and/or barn owner.

Besides laws about numbers of horses per acre, you might also heap extra info on your raters by finding out things like how far a barn needs to be from your house and well, and neighboring houses and wells, whether or not you can bury dead horses on the property, any manure management laws, etc.
