What are these bugs in the water outside??

Ive seen this bugs before they've always appeared in water thats been left outside, but i was just wondering if anyone knew what they were and how they get there. theyre like a tadpole, long and they swim really weird. Its been bugging me for ages so any help will be great thanks

It could be misquito larva. They breed in calm standing water.

if they're really small 1/4-1/2 inch they're probably mosquito larvae
