  1. Your friend is absolutely right. These bumps are caused by "night crawlers" which surface at night to absorb the evening dew, and to breed and feed on decaying grass in the thatch zone. These bumps are not a bad thing, in fact, as we all should know by now, that worms and night crawlers in the soil is a very good thing and should be welcomed with open arms. They "aerate" the soil and loosen it up to allow good root growth as well as good amounts of oxygen to reach the root zone making for a healthier turf. Their "castings" (bodily waste) also adds a little organic fertilizer back into the soil. These bumps do no harm and are only cosmetic or unpleasant to walk on. Using a water roller to flatten them down would only be a temporary fix, and in a couple of days you would have them popping up around in the turf once again. Rolling the lawn with a water filled roller would compact the soil down, something that you should try to avoid doing to a healthy turf. If you can live with these bumps, your turf with thank you in the long run. Hope this answers your question...

  2. They could be worm casts or perhaps ants just tread them down and the grass will recover and grow through them.

  3. The only way to get rid of these, would be to get a VERY heavy roller and pull it across your lawn several times. You might need to rent a ride-mower to do it, but it should get rid of the lumps.

It's also possible to just use a shovel and dig them out.

  4. , we need more info or a picture so we know what sort of bumps....

  5. Any hint as to what size are these "bumps" are?
