    the pronunciation of 知識 is a retroflex

    知 zh 識sh ..only pronounce Z n S sound with retroflex...then u'll get it correct..

    Don't be fooled by kanji, either. Some Kanji have different pronunciations.

    知= chi, s**+(ru),

    識= shiki (onyomi, it has one sound).

    So, in this case, a kunyomi is mixed with an onyomi.
