Question:

What are these little insects? are they pests?

i found them burrowed in some potting soil i hadn't use for a few months. I want to know are they harmful to plants if i use the dirt with them in it any details about them would be nice.

  1. They are Vegetable Weevil larvae.  While some grubs are beneficial in the compost most all of them, including green rose chafers, will eat live plants if decaying plant matter isn't available.  You don't really want them in your potted plants.

They are the beetle equivalent of earth worms and help break things down, so they are very beneficial    http://maria.fremlin.de/stagbeetles/larv...
