Question:

What are these new "credit/debit/charge" cards where you pay money in??

I have recently noticed adverts for payment cards where you deposit money then spend against that cards funds - topping up as required.

Seems like a good idea to protect against credit/debit card fraud.

I'm thinking of getting one - and maybe one for my student daughter, who is fairly casual with her bank debit card - and ID fraud in general.

Does anyone have any experience of using them - and if they had any problems. How widely they are accepted.? Are there hidden charges or pitfalls? Are some better than others? Has there been a journalists review?

I'm in UK.

  1. I know mastercard makes one so they must be accepted everywhere.  I think you have to pay about £10 for a starter pack to get the actual card.  You might as well just go to the bank and get a debit card with no overdraft facility.
