What are these small bumps on my son?

my son is 11 months old and i'm taking him to the doctor tomorrow, but in the meantime i'm wondering what these small bumps on him are. they started very spaced out on his legs. and a few on his head. eventually they spread all over his body. i didn't worry too much at first because i thought they may have been flea bites. i treated the home and the cat and the fleas were gone, but the bumps increased in number. they haven't itched him (or he hasn't scratched them), they aren't red or swollen, and they don't have white heads or pus. there hasn't been any fatigue or temperature. my baby is just as happy and bouncy as he's always been, he's just got these small bumps on him. they were very sparse 2 weeks ago and now they're all over him. any idea what they may be? the are about as big as the lead in a pencil around. like i said, he's got a doctor's appointment tomorrow so i'll know for sure then, i'd just like to know now. a nurse looked at him recently and she said that its not a food allergy. any thoughts?

also, he hasn't had any shots within the last two months so i doubt they're the result of a vaccination. and i don't think they're measles because he doesn't have a temperature.

  1. Sounds like heat rash, but you are definately doing the right thing taking him to the docs. Just keep an eye on them until tomorrow.

  2. My doctor recommended to me to take pictures of my sons bumps when he had a heat rash, that way if it goes away before your visit he can tell you what's going on. It could be a heat rash, my son gets those a lot, but I'm glad you are taking him to see the doctor.

  3. Are they fluid-filled (kind of like blisters)? Without knowing more, I'm thinking possibly Impetigo. There are a couple of different types. Some start on the face and some start on the extremities.

Have any of them broken and gotten crusty?

My son had Impetigo. I thought it was ant bites because he had been outside and they didn't itch. The daycare didn't even catch it.

ETA: With the clear liquid, I'm really thinking Impetigo. It IS contagous. If you are pregnant, this could be a problem (depending on how YOUR doc feels about the risks). You should get him to the doc for antibiotics at once.

  4. It's probably some sort of skin infection...nothing serious.

Some people, it seems are more sensitive and prone to infections...I'm one of them.

It could be an infection of the hair follicles that's causing the bumps.  He would need a cream and antibiotic but it'll go away quickly.

It could also be an infection in the blood started by the flea bits...they're flea bites indeed...it's just that he doesn't need the fleas to get the bites anymore because his blood is infected.  Also goes away quickly you'll just need an antibiotic and some hospital antibacterial like betadine.

    Or...maybe it's neither of those.

Whatever it is good luck...probably won't be too big of a deal :)

  5. they might be hives google it to find out more about it

  6. could be severe dry skin.  right time of year for it.  eczema is a dry skin that causes bumps(sand paper feel).  it can be caused by allergies also doesn't always itch.  try eucerine cream or any non perfumed hypoallergenic lotions or creams

  7. A rash or bumps on  an infant can be anything. It's good that you are going to the dr. tomorrow. I'm sure it's nothing serious but now you will know.

  8. that sounds like a heat rash. just keep an eye on them and maybe keep him out of the sun

  9. My son has the same kind of bumps. Kinda flesh colored and it doesn't hurt him but they are just there. His doctor said that it was some sort of cyst and it was harmless and it will go away in time. My son has had them since he was born and he is 2 now. No worries!

  10. It sounds like it could be Mulluscum Contagious-um, (sp?).  My kids have this although their ages are 5, 7 and 9.

Mulluscum isn't contagious despite its name and is usually contracted by people that have eczema.  All in all it is completely harmless but odd looking.

  11. heat rash maybe good luck
