What are these white spots on my teeth and how do I get rid of them? Anyone else have these?

For as long as I can remember I have had these fairly large & very noticeable white spots on my two front teeth. I remember asking the dentist and I was told they were calcium deposits. I never asked what could be done. Now that I am older (25) it has made me VERY self conscious when smiling or talking, because I know that people notice them and wonder what they are. I dont want people to think my teeth are rotten or something! They are just spots on my front teeth (lower on the tooth) and are very white spots. I want to go to a dentist to find out how I can fix my teeth so that you cant notice the white spots, but I am not sure if it is possible & I definately cant afford veneers or anything! Anyone else have these or know what I can do about them? I am so sick of being embarrassed!!

  1. They're simply calcium deposits and look very different than a tooth that is rotting.

Calcium deposits occur when there is a disturbance in the development of the teeth. The ameloblast (cells which make the hard white part of the teeth called enamel) when making the teeth add too much mineral to the mix and the result is a white or brown spot.

If the inner material of the tooth (Dentine) is discolored (such as when some type of medicines are taken or the disturbance in the development occurs later in life), the teeth will tend to have discoloration that appears to be very deep in the tooth (such as in the grey color teeth found in people who have taken tetracycline).

Teeth can be beautified by bleaching, gently removing the calcium deposit with air abrasion (a machine which blows quartz particles at a high speed), applying white colored filling material, porcelain veneers, or porcelain crowns.

  2. These are from the inside out.  You can try bleaching, but other than that, you are looking at veneers or crowns.

  3. ya, they are from a calcium difficiency as a child. Although, that doesn't mean you still have one.

What you can do about this is talk to your dentist. (they will do some sort of bleaching or other minor procedure, i would imagine) in order to remove them.

So you never know until you go to the dentist. you could also call the dentists' office and ask them if they know what they could do to resolve your problem,

    good luck, hun:D

  4. i have one on my lower front tooth too but i dont know what you can do about it but your not the only one!!

  5. i had these spots as well on my two front teeth. just recently july 31 i had my two teeth repaired and they put on a concrete type of substance on both my teeth and covered them completely. but i had them for my whole life, 14 years, and was embarrassed, too!

  6. You're embarrassed because your teeth are white?

  7. i had one but i don't know i guess i brushed alot so now its gone

  8. I have them as well, and my dentist also told me they were calcification. I asked him if I could try white strips to help even things out and he said that you could try it and see if you like the results.

He said that each person's teeth will react differently to the bleaching of the white strips but that if I didn't like the affect to simply stop and they would revert back to how they were before.

Hopefully that helped at least a little bit.

  9. just whiten up the rest of ur teeth

  10. yeh i have them too, im not rele bothered, but you can get teeth bleaching kits which are relatively cheap and you apply the bleach to your teeth i think once a day for a month and it does work, my brother did it. hope this is helpful :)
