It was once technically called a "gravity knife."

The blade extends and retracts through the center of the handle. It operates without any manual reloading of the blade.

A switch blade originally opened from the side of the handle and had to be manually closed before it could opened again.

However I do think these terms have changed by now.

If you are thinking about getting one you better think twice because they are very illegal. They got something similar to it that's call a flipper or spring assisted knife opening those are legal.
