What are they looking for??

i'm applying University of Wisconsin Madison and I have to write an essay. The topic is.....

The University values an educational environment that provides all members of the campus community with opportunities to grow and devolop intellectually, personally, culturally and socially. In order to give us a more complete picture of you as an individual, please tell us about the particular life experiences, perspectives, talents, commitments and/or interests you will bring to our campus. In other words, how will your presence enrich our community?

where do i start???

they want to know what makes you special; how do YOU stand out as an admission candidate. and, how will your unique self add to the university community.

think on it, free write for a while, think about how special you are and what makes you special. use the free write as a spring board for the essay.

At the beginning.  If you can't start an essay, what do you want to do at an university?  I always thought that university was for people that knew something.  Start..... I am an 18 year old alcoholic, who smokes pot regularly.... and think your organization stinks.

Immediate acceptance.  Or the exact opposite.

They want to know things about you that interest you, that you have done or been through in your life, and talents you have that will help make the campus better. They are looking for people with a passion to learn and succeed in life, they do not want someone who is a goof-off. Tell them about everything good you have done, like volunteer work, or any academic clubs you have been in, and so on.
