  1. How do you fail a personality test?  Maybe you should put your name on it next time.

  2. The reason to give you a personality test (Myers Briggs, I'm guessing?) is manifold. First, they want to see if you're stable mentally. Second, they want to see if you're the right fit for the job. For instance, if I wanted to hire a sales / marketing guy I want someone who is more creative and outgoing. If I want an account I'm looking for someone who enjoys working on tedious tasks and who is a stickler for details.

The M-B and similar tests give you a personality type based on 4 metrics:

    Extrovert / Introvert

    Sensing / Intuitive

    Thinking / Feeling

    Judging / Perceiving

So for sales, say a ENFP (extrovert, iNtuitive, feeling, perceiving) might be a good fit.

I think the only way the personality test would write you off is if you're are the complete opposite of what type of person they're looking for. To me though, when I hire someone I just like to talk to them and you can see through the rest. First impressions are huge and even more important in sales / business in general because dealing with others is daily activity.
