What are things that we have here in America, but are not available in Germany?

I have foreign exchange students arriving in about THREE hours, and I just wanted to surprise them with things!

Ex: Someone told me they did not have peanut butter, but that is not true.

Also, are there any places they do not have?

I'm taking them to Walmart and Costco, because I think they will think it is interesting.

  1. Costco don't know, but Walmart has stopped business in Germany last year because the german coustomers and employees were to weird for them.

    Greetings from Hamburg, Germany

    Heinz

  2. Bring them to the hood. They'll be freaked out and it will be an experience like never before

  3. Not too many differences between the US and Germany, I am afraid when it comes to such things..

We have Walmarts here as well, so superstores will probably not be surprising to them.... yours might be larger, but "going to the Mall" is not a very German thing to do at all - unless you actually want to get in, get your shopping done in as less time as possible and leave again. ;)

Still, thinking about what you could do is VERY sweet. I guess you might not have the time to prepare anything big - but how about you take them to the store to buy ingredients for something typically American to cook?

I don´t know where you live or where your German visitors come from, but anything local will be something they´re interested in. Show them around town and they will most definitely tell you what they feel like doing, Germans are usually quite open and outspoken about things like that. :)

  4. There isn't much that you can't get in Germany, but here is a few things that I've noticed and miss about Canada; real peanut butter (the stuff in Germany is a good immitation of Jiffy or Squirrel), Graham Wafers, Root Beer, Cream Soda, Chezzies (can't even get them in the US), mini & regular marshmallows, pumpkin pie, flapper pie, Kraft dinner, cream of tartar, life savers, Mr. Sub sandwiches (although you can get Subway sandwiches...but I think Mr. Sub is better), real hamburger and hot dog buns, caramilk and rum & butter chocolate bars, Canadian beer, Canadian newspapers. These things are just off the top of my head...there's probibly more, but I'd have to really think about it.

  5. 1. Wildlife and nature

While Germany is beautiful, it is difficult to be anywhere without some sign of civilisation. In most areas outside of the national parks and wildlife reserves you don't need to walk for more than 10 minutes to see some sort of human presence. Either in the form of farmed fields, electricity poles, roads, etc.

It was only after having been to the US that I understood that this was the reason why most people in the US didn't care as much for the environment as Germans did - there is plenty of almost unspoiled nature left in the USA, so it is not yet regarded as precious resource.

    2. Driver's lessons for people under 18.

The one thing I hated most about my stay in the US was that I was dead without a car. I didn't have a driver's license (still don't) and absolutely missed: my bicycle, being able to walk to most places and public transport.

  6. whip cream!!

you will be able to find everything in Germany, and usually much better too....but I was never able to find whip-cream, you know....the cheap stuff...! not die gute Sahne....!

OMG!!!! here we go again...the thumbs down parade again!!

remember people this IS America, we can say anything we want too...."Freedom of Speech"
