  1. It is normally windy there. If you like to fly kites, be sure to bring them.

  2. There's always the beach and the pool (if your hotel has a pool), of course.  And you can go to the YMCA if you want a workout or if your hotel doesn't have a pool.

You can go to Jockey's Ridge State Park and climb on the humongous sand dunes and roll down them, jump off them, etc.  It's lots of fun.

Right in Kitty Hawk, you can visit the Wright Brothers Memorial.  I haven't been there, but it might be interesting.

You can check out Kitty Hawk Kites, which I think is the company that runs the hang gliding lessons--if you have $100 and want to learn to hang glide.  That could be exciting.

There is a ton of mini golf, especially down in Nag's Head, which is nearby.

If you like shopping, try going to Duck (a town north of Kitty Hawk on NC-12).  It has a lot of unique shops in a centralized, walkable area.  And I saw a bunch of outlet stores like Gap, Coach, etc. down in Nags Head.

If you enjoy going to bars and are old enough, I recommend the Port O Call, which has really interesting Victorian decor but has bands and things like that until 2am.  It has a restaurant and a gift shop too.  The Outer Banks Brewing Station is also a fun place.  But there are lots of other cool restaurants and nightspots, especially in the Kill Devil Hills/Nags Head stretch of the island.  The Jolly Roger had good food.

If you go to Roanoke Island, you can visit the cute town of Manteo, where they have the Lost Colony outdoor play.  They have performances frequently about the lost English colony of Roanoke (an internet search will show you details).  I had lunch at a nice restaurant called Full Moon Cafe there, and there were cute shops too.  Also on Roanoke Island are the Elizabethan Gardens, which are beautiful if you like botanical gardens.

Also on Roanoke Island, you can visit the NC Aquarium at Roanoke Island and see all the fish.  Aquariums are so peaceful (aside from the crowds, if it's a busy day)!

If you go way up to the northern end of the Outer Banks (like to Corolla), you can do Wild Horses tours to see the island wild horses.   I haven't done it, but it's worth doing an internet search and finding out more.  I bet the wild horses are beautiful.

There really are so many things to do, you won't be bored at all!

  3. For starters you can go see the Kitty Hawk. There are cool dunes there and lots of good food and restaurants.I really enjoyed it.Don't go to the all you can eat seafood place. It is very high and a little on the crummy  side. Can't remember the name but I think it is a man's name.

  4. loads of great places to stay, tons of things to do outside of the beaches
