What are things used in studying geography?

This question is far too open ended.

different geographers specialise in different things. It's like saying 'What are some wthings used in cooking?' ... The list is endless...

I suppose maps are used a lot, as are reference books, search engines...

Or do you mean what would you use to do fieldwork? Once again, it depends if it's human or physical geography, and where abouts you are in the world...

It completely depends on the field of research.  Cartographers work with maps (among other tools), some Geographers use computer Geographic Information System (or G.I.S.) programs.  Human geographers, like myself, sometimes rely on case studies and field work.  Quantitative methods in Geography include statistical analysis and many others.  The field of Geography is far more broad than many people think, and thus the tools use to study it are very diverse.
