What are things you can and cannot say to a social worker?

I am seeing a social worker and not 100% sure what I can and cannot say to my social worker. What are some things that I can say and cannot say?

  1. You just gave zero information.  Why wouldn't you be able to say something to your social worker?  If you plan on lying, no one can help you.


  2. You can tell your Social Worker anything, she's not supposed to share that information unless you are a minor and are threatening to hurt yourself or others...

  3. You should tell her as little as possible. My experience is that social workers use every bit of information to limit your liberty and gain control of your life. Your best course of action is to get the social worker out of your life. They most likely have more problems than you do.

    I cannot emphasize enough, social workers care about their own comfort and convenience and the power that can be exercised by their bureaucracy. They do not help people they use people. They cannot be trusted.

  4. Ask your social worker about the limits of your confidentiality. Different states have different rules about this, as well the kind of license your social worker has. Anyone can call themselves a social worker.

  5. Same as any other therapist ... everything you say is confidential .. unless you agree to give out the information.
