  1. Im not sure what you mean by brown rubber but heres my take on it!---

    You can have drains put into your tummy or wherever the operation was done to drain off any extra fluid/blood/pus so they can keep track of what is coming out.  Letting it drain out also prevents infection of the wound etc.

    There is a uninary catheter which goes into the bladder and it drains all the unine out automatically.  It lets them know whether the person has had enough fluids by how much urine they put out.

    The majority of Penrose Drains are made from NATURAL latex which varies in color from light yellow to a dark brownish, especialy if you add a little blood. See the first image I linked. Also the operative (pun intended) words are "...after surgery".
