  1. They are called aero bars.

  2. Aero Bars

  3. clip on aero bars are easy to add to nearly any road bike/mountain bike/hybrid.  The problem is that a bike built for aero bars (TT/tri bike) is built around the geometry of having your upper body resting on your bone structure (upper arm bone/elbow).  A road bike/mountain bike etc geometry is not very stable when you put half of your weight on the top of the front wheel.

As some others mentioned, aero bars are not legal in road races/crits because the bike is far more twitchy and harder to handle.  Many recreational riders do not want to ride beside/behind someone on aero bars-- they wiggle around too much.  On our group rides anyone on a TT bike gets to ride in front of the pack or behind the pack-- never in the middle of the group.

A road bike with it's variety of hand positions (hoods, drops, flat top) gives plenty of options for comfort.  Getting down in the drops lowers your profile similar to aero bars (and still gives access to your brakes and shifters).  You don't get to relax your upper body like good aero bars, but it's a great alternative.

  4. As all the others have noted,

    Aero bars.

I have three older sets of Profile aero bars.  See below for an example.  I have always enjoyed having them just to be able to take the weight off my hands and wrists.  And go faster to boot.

Aero bars are true bolt on speed.

  5. Triathalon or Aero Bars (See the link)

  6. ya tri bars or areo bars.

if you want to race you cannot use them unless doing a triathalon
