What kind of exercise do they help with? Can they take the place of a chair?

  1. They are for yoga poses and sometimes strength training.


  2. Basically every exercise you can do in the gym you can do the same on an gym ball. They're brilliant.

  3. They are good for a lot of different exercises... It helps to tone muscles while sitting on it because you have to balance yourself - use while lifting weights, crunches, push ups, etc. Here's a site that has animated examples of what kind you can do on it.

  4. Yes, they can take the place of a chair. The extra work you do in maintaining balance helps work stabilizer muscles & enhance your workout.

  5. strengthening abs,  you can do crunches on them,  it is also  great for stretching the back.  I use mine for that.  You can work out legs aswell.  There is an excercise dvd for it.
