What are those numbers on a german adress?

I was just wondering if those numbers next to a german adress is the PLZ code or the postcode?

  1. Well there's the street address and the postal code known as Postleitzahl (PLZ), but that's all.

    PLZ actually means post leid zahl

    you usually put it before the city....

    the numbers could either be the number of the house

    e.g. Wilheimstasse 134

    or it will be the postal code, which as far as i am aware is PLZ in German.

    EDIT: yes, it is the postal code you're thinking of.

  4. I believe that in German addresses, the building number follows the road name.  In the US, we say 5 Main Street.  But in Germany, they say Main Strasse 5.
