  1. You know it now:

"Calaveras de azúcar", wich means exactly sugar skulls (skull=calavera, sugar=azúcar); or "calaveritas de azúcar"="sugar lttle skulls".

Those are made only around october 1st, "dead's day" ("día de muertos", not "death's", but about "died people"). Usually is a gift we give to friends and their name is written in the skull (wich foreigners find offensive sometimes) and many times also with a "calavera" ("skull") wich are some rhimes about the person.

  2. They are called skulls. In Spanish calaveras or more specifically calaveras de alfeñique.

  3. It's a candy. It's made of sugar were youa add color to help the figure.

It is typically made for November 2nd which is the Day of the Deaths... were we remember of love one's who have passed away.

For this day, it is also made a bread which is called bread of death.

  4. the candy sugar skulls = calaveras de azucar.

  5. Hi, they are called "calaveras de azúcar" but also you can call them "calaveritas" which is small skulls.

They are not creepy at all for us, and they have name on the forehead, people give each other calaveritas with their names, for example "Maria" if my name was Maria.

There are 2 versions about this. One says it's because "death is sweet" another version says it's because we want death to remind us and not leave us behind (it wouldn't be nice to live forever while all your love ones are gone).
