Indeed, these types of trains are called Maglev (magnetic levitation), which use magnets and high powered motors to propel the train on a cushion of air above the "track" structure.  While a very environmentally friendly and fast mode of transportation Maglev is still in the developmental stage and has a long way to go before it is efficient and cost effective enough to replace traditional electric and diesel-electric locomotives used to power trains.

  4. They used to be called linear induction trains, but now they are called magnetic levitation trains, or 'maglev' for short.

  5. Maglev (short for "magnetic levitation") is correct.  A Bullet Train has wheels and runs on rails, just at a higher speed than usual.
