I have always wondered what they were ever since i saw them on naruto

It is called, "Naruto" and it's a fish cake, like a Kamaboko.  If you go to the Japanese grocery store, you will see it as a sausage shape(kind of) with a grated lines outside all around.  When you cut it, you find a pink swirly patterns inside.  You add it to Ramen  noodles, Udon, soba, etc.  I like it.

That white thing with the pink swirl that they put in ramen is called naruto. It's named after the swirly vorteces that appear in the Naruto Strait off the island of Awaji in Japan.

The naruto is a fish cake made of pureed fish. A layer is dyed pink and rolled in to make the swirl.

The Naruto Strait was there first. It became famous for its swirly vorteces. So the fish cake with a swirl got named after that.
