  1. The adaptions, gymnosperms developed to survive in cold climates are spire shapes to shed snow, small, waxy leaves with thick cuticle, a well developed layer beneath the epidermis called the hypodermis, sunken stomata, and ( most of them ) are evergreen.

    In this way they are protected against frost, resist winter desiccation and they are able to photosynthesize whenever the weather allows.


  2. Small leaf area, conical crown shape to prevent branches breaking due to weight of snow, I can't think of a third.
