  1. The role of Mr. Jones in Animal Farm is that of a poor leader with characteristics that justified the animals' revolt and his exile. You want to would want to keep in mind the character's significance to the work when describing him. Three adjectives I would use are:

    1. Incompetent - Mr. Jones was in the position of power on the farm but did not fulfill his duties as leader.

"Mr Jones, of Manor Farm, had locked the hen-houses for the night, but was too drunk to remember to shut the pop-holes." (pg 1, chapter 1)

    2. Pathetic - Mr. Jones had once been a good ruler but due to some business failures he has since become self-pitying and inadequate around the farm.

"[Mr Jones] had become much disheartened after losing money in a lawsuit, and had taken to drinking more than was good for him." (pg 11, chapter 2)

    3. Tyrannical - Mr. Jones, representing all humans in the view of animals, operated the farm with absolute control, for the benefit of himself only with no regards to his subjects/animals.

"Man is the only creature that consumes without producing." (page 4, chapter 1)
