  1. What type of "hot bed" are you referring to?

I guess I could assume you mean the type used to start plants in the spring.

A solar collector and a pump to circulate the warm water through tubing beneath the soil would be okay.

Often, hot beds are limited to a small greenhouse type of configuration. Solar gain through a glass or plastic cover warms the interior environment.

In commercial applications, heat may be added by gas, wood, coal, electric, or other heat sources to supplement the solar gain and prevent freezing.

  2. if you mean to start seedlings then you have glass panes or clear plastic panes{I use plastic sheets with a wooden frame}this collects the natural suns heat {solar}i have seen black plastic water blatters these also absorb the suns heat but these were more of a wall with a clear plastic lid,cow or horse manure dug into the ground the heat of it composting Will keep the ground warm larger operations will use natural gas or oil furnaces forced air heating

  3. Solar (glass roof)

    Horse manure, decaying

Less-"green" methods, such as electrical heating
