What are top brands and models of LCD HDTV's today?

My 37 inch Sanyo is on the blink, and I want to upgrade to possibly a larger screen and among the best of quality in the various brands available. Any guidance for me?

For color gamut, black levels and all around picture goodness, Sony, Samsung and Sharp are at the top of most top ten lists. I'd stick to one of those brands, do your own searches of course, but any one of these sets will deliver a great picture.  You might get more bang for your buck with a plasma. If you don't plan on hooking up video games or a PC, check around for deals on plasma as well.

Second, read over the 11/07 and 3/08 Consumer Reports HDTV articles. Pay special attention to the reliability section. You can get these at your local public library. This will address brands, sizes, and technology (plasma vs. LCD).

Generally, Panasonic is the very best buy for your money in a plasma display. Sony, followed by Toshiba, is the best LCD over 37".

i just bought a Samsung 6 series ToC.  the picture is phenomenal on both HD and non HD tv shows!!  also a big thing on current lcd's is the 120hz refreash rate and the 1080p display.   i feel Samsung is the way to go but I also hear the 120hz Sony lcd are just as killer.
