Question:

What are tricks you have trained your dog?

I'm getting a puppy and am trying to think of tricks I can train her as she becomes more advanced. Of course I'm going to do sit, lay, stay, come and heel. I've taught dogs in the past to shake and hold a treat on their nose before tossing it up in the air to catch it. Oh, and I plan on teaching her to roll over and hopefully sit pretty. I'm not going to push her, so don't worry about that, but are there any other tricks I can try and how did you train your dog to do so? And if there's anyone that's taught their dogs how to do even more advanced things (advanced frisbee, obstacle course, etc.) I'd love advice about that! I've read books and watched shows (and done more simple things with obstacles and such in the past) but any other advice/ tips are appreciated. I love training my siblings dogs and am very good at it.

  1. Well, the basics are the most important. Sit, stay, come, heel, loose lead walking, wait, drop it, leave it, down, and so on. What you need to do is teach those and as the dog progresses, add distractions (like a bouncing or rolling ball, people/dogs walking by, loud noises) and distance.

Other stuff: Play dead, roll over, shake, high five, open/close doors, dance, Halt (i use to tell dog to drop from a distance, like if they're running and you want them to stop.)

There's a lot more you can teach, just google dog training and check it out.

  2. My dog goes in tunnels, on ramps, plays frisbee, ball and swims.  We taught him sit, lay down, shake a paw and high five.  Right now my b/f is teaching him to walk on his back legs with his front paws on his arm.

  3. basics, sit,lay,gemme paw,stand (up).that kinda stuff

  4. Dance!

  5. I've only taught him the basics. He knows "sit", "stay", "down", "off", and "shake". I'm working on fetch. My dog is a 1 year old Yorkie.
