  1. 1.  Determine the structural strength of the rock.

    2.  Determine the oil content of the rocks.


  2. Well... the main reason would be because geochemistry is the study of chemistry in a geological context.  Looking at rocks is kind of a given.  It would be hard to be a geochemist if you never studied rocks.

  3. A geochemist IS a geologist, Why would any geologist study rocks?

    1. to determine its chemical compostion

    2. to determine its resource potential

    3. to determine under what conditions it was formed (depostional environment)

    4 to determine if it may present a hazard (geohazard) like forming acid if it gets wet
