I was driving down the highway the other day, and saw that gas is $4.03! What are some little things I can do to save gas?

  1. Just do an internet search for gas saving tips and you'll find a whole bunch of info.

  2. Buy Honda Civic... I got one for sale if you want it!

  3. properly inflated tires, clean air filter, synthetic oil, good working vehicle new spark plugs, remove any non needed stuff from the car ,remember everthing weighs somthing,on the highway check your tach. and drive at a speed that the tach stays below 2500 rpm

  4. Hypermile. Here's what I do...

    1) No speeds faster than 55mph.

    2) No fast acceleration

    3) If you're coming to a stop sign or red light, let off the gas about double your braking distance and let the car coast down. If you feather your gas pedal just right you'll usually make the green lights without using your brakes or in the case of the stop sign...be the next one in line to go.

    4) Keep AC off as much as possible.

    5) Kill the engine at really long lights, waiting at the drive thru, or waiting for a train to cross the intersection.

Hypermiling driving tactics I don't do because they are far too dangerous and also illegal.

    1) Drafting semis. If you do this you have a death wish.

    2) Kill the engine when coasting down a long steep hill. The land in my area is mostly flat but I've read about this tactic.

I drive a 2006 Toyota Corolla w/ automatic transmission, EPA rating is 30 city / 38 highway. By following my above tactics I achieved 41mpg in the city, don't know about highway because I haven't had a chance to test it out.

  5. Clean air filter and proper tire pressures are important.

  6. hello. I saw on the 'Coast to Coast am' pages, an advertisement of making Water work as gas.  I haven't tried it, yet.

  7. carpool!!

  8. Little things?

    1.  Over-inflate your tires by like 5-8psi

    2.  Remove the junk in your car if you're a car slob like me

    3.  Drive slow.. like drivin ms. daisy slow

  9. 1. Make Sure Your tires are pressured correctly

    2. Try Not to go above 4000RPM while driving

    3. Lighten the load in the car, such as removing any excess baggage in the trunk, the pounds you shed the better

    4. Rotate your tires

  10. Seriously, prepare for the inevitable... start looking for a better way to get to work for starters.

Can you live closer to your income and walk or ride a bike?  How is the public transportation in your neck of the woods?

I ride a bike to work and I am always astounded at just how much I'm saving - 16 miles a day round trip.  No gas, no insurance - no parking (100-120 bucks a month right there) and no expensive maintenance.  I'm not a granola or a lycra-freak - just a guy riding to work - and not needing a gym membership cuz I can eat whatever and still stay lean.
