Eatting at Buffet Restaurants like Golden Corral and Old Country Buffet offer a whole variety of foods to choose from. From Chicken to Pizza and from fried foods to baked foods, fruits, vegtables, salads, and desserts, buffet restaurants have a lot of options to choose from.

However, it might not always be easy to eat healthy at a buffet because of the wide selection of foods to choose from. What are ways you can eat healthy when you are eatting at a buffet restaurant?

  1. Eat whatevr u want but only eat 1 plate of food and do not go for seconds.

  2. Have a salad first! & maybe some grilled chicken! Then maybe you wont want the bad stuff!!

  3. If you saw the things that patrons do to buffets, the flies and other insects that sit in buffet food and the time that buffet food sits out, you would know that NO buffet is healthy to eat at, regardless if your eating fruits & vegetables from it or not.

  4. Variety is precisely the healthy reason for buffets.  This will eliminate a need for vitamin supplements if you eat a wide variety of natures foods. exercise moderation, stay away from deep fried or breaded items, rich sauces, limit starches,  red meats in moderation, small portions of desserts.Have some raw fruits and salad to begin.  even within these guidelines, small portions of favorite "unrecommended" items are ok. And even if you overeat, do it early in the day and you may not eat again all day.

  5. Get a plate of food with a tiny bit of everything on it first time around. Decide which foods you'd like more of and go get these foods the second time around in the correct portion sizes, of course. NO more times to the buffet!

And watch the drinks, as they can be as many calories as the food is! Say, limit yourself to one coke or pepsi that is 8 oz; as this amount alone is about 120 calories.

  6. get you a plate full of salad first so that way you wont be too hungry to eat all of the fatty foods..

  7. Golden corral and other buffets always have many healthy choices. It is in fact the willpower of the person to chose them. Like how about having a nice fruit salad, or garden salad with grilled chicken and fat free ranch? Or the many vegetables such as broccoli and califlower, or corn? At the golden corral here in houston they have cooks who make the steaks and chicken fresh to order. You can specifically ask them to grill you a piece of steak without seasoning. Fish is also not as fatty either. A nice piece of grilled fish would be nice. Well I hoped this helps. Good eating.

  8. - Get a salad from the salad bar

    - Get broiled food (chicken, fish)

    - Eat plenty of veggies and fruit (if available)

    - DO NOT eat fried food

    - If the buffet has ice cream for dessert, the ice cream is healthier than some of the desserts, as long as you don't pile on the toppings.  As a reader of a cooking magazine, I am shocked my the amount of calories and fat in some desserts.

    - While getting desserts, aim for the jello or pudding, not the baked items.

  9. HI!

I'd suggest eating a 'proper' meal rather than attacking anything that looks tasty; and by proper I mean, having an appetizer of salad or veggies -- make sure to keep light on the dressing and the croutons since they can defeat the purpose of a healthy salad. Next, I'd go w/ something grilled (e.g seafood) or baked (e.g chicken). If lets say you see something kind of 'unhealthy' you'd like to eat -- don't deprive yourself, just have a small bit! If you deprive yourself it will just make you eat more later. For example, I love fries and if they have some at a buffet I grab 3 or 4 fries and treat myself. Also, with your main entree -- you can grab a side -- just make sure its also on the 'healthy end' (i.e. baked potato, brown rice, greens).

After you've had the main meal, you can go for dessert but go for the fruit ideally. Still, if they have something you like, such as cake or ice cream, either get a small portion or share it w/ a friend or two. That way you'll get to eat some and you'll keep the proportion under control.

...and... Most importantly, don't stuff yourself! Yes, It's a buffet, but it doesn't mean you should go nuts eating all you can eat. LOL

    Good luck!

  10. You can eat whatever you want. You are going to eat anyway - buffet or a la carte.

I would pick a restaurant that ensures that diners do not use the same plate for second helpings. You can start by educating the people in your group to do so.

Pick a buffet that is high on hygenie - one can eat fatty food for a day and survive - but if contaminated food gets in your tummy - It may turn out more expensive - the cost of the meal, Physicians fee - medicines if necessary & and god forbit if you have to be hospitalized. Plus all the suffering

Go for hygenic food - even if it is fatty - enjoy your buffet

  11. just have a STRONG MIND SET and manage your intake of food... cuz first of all ppl only go to buffets if they want more variety of food, they are hunger like an animal, they are celebrating an event and or in a mood to treat themselves to a GRAND meal...

eating b4 going to buffets is a waste of money... eating salad first.. gee at times have you seen the dressing ppl use, and you can't just go ok imma eat a lil of this and that and some swts... but then as you walk around your gonna see the soup, at times a taco area, fruits, and etc... so all i gotta sat is have a STONG MIND SET and be in control and or eat early like b4 6 and after eating walk it off... go to the market, mall, and or any store you plz and also park far and not close to the restaurants door =P

  12. Avoid anything with a cream sauce, such as hollandaise, also avoid things that are scalloped, cause they usually have lots of cheese.  Skip the gravy and sour cream on your taters.  If you go for the soup, skip the cream one and go for veggie, or minestrone.  Avoid fried foods.

  13. The less processed the food the better it is for you.  Salads and fruit.  Mostly though make sure the food is hot enough to have killed any germs that may have landed on it while people were going through the line.  I hate buffets.  Hands, sneezes and little fingers it's all gross.
