  1. Here's a great site that gives eco-friendly advice to college students, including how to save money and the environment at the same time:

  2. some of the things that i have done are simple. don't run water the entire time you brush your teeth. shorter showers or baths. recycle, and not just pop bottles. ask your local waste management people what all is recyclable. alot of things are made with that in mind, so you can choose to buy things that are. Styrofoam is not, neither are paper plates. the Dixie cups and plates, the plastic one or the cardboard type. or just do dishes:) unplug things that don't have to be plugged in, like battery chargers. put TV and stereo on a power strip and turn off when not home. 3% of electric bill is attributed to things being on in standby mode. a compost pile is a godd way to get rid of leftovers, hard to if in a dorm though. research online and you will find all kinds of innovative ways but this is a way to start.

  3. Go to a college close to home, ride a bike, don't drink beer (fermentation releases CO2) buy used books (unless the Prof is requiring a new edition) eat food you prepare instead of hitting the pizza and burger joints. This is a start. By the way, it'll save your parents some money too.

  4. You can get paid to recycle inkjet cartridges and cellular phones. Collect them from the dorms and offices. Keep these things out of landfills and get paid for them. The best program is run by Planet Green.

  5. The easiest thing I can think of would be to take public transportation. 1 Less car on the road will help, and save you costs of gas and parking permits. Unplugging any appliance you don't use will also help a little bit, as well as save you on your electric bill.

  6. Easy.  Ride a bike.  Use public transportation.  Walk.  Live with roommates.  Recycle bags when you go to the store (5 cent credit).  Turn down the heat.  Turn off the air conditioner.  Use less water.  Countless other ways.  Just be creative.

  7. recycle cans

  8. Try changing to energy efficient light bulbs, they'll save you money on your power bill and you won't have to buy light bulbs as often.

Always be sure to turn off and unplug all your appliances when they aren't in use.

Get a half gallon milk jug, fill it with water and place it in your toilet tank, this will lower your water bill.
