  1. regular

    irregular

  2. Many ways.  There are regular polygons, which have all equal length (congruent) sides, and irregular, which have different length sides and don't have regular shape.  An example of a regular polygon is a stop sign.  It is a regular octogon.  An eight sided shape with different lengths and no symmetry would be irregular.

Also, they can be classified as parallelograms, trapezoids, rhombuses, rectangles and squares.  All squares are rectangles, all rectangles are parallelograms.  All  rhombuses are parallelograms.  All these shapes are polygons.

  3. number of sides

  4. by the number of sides they have?

  5. quadrilaterals are all 4 sides polygons

    triangles are all 3 sided

classed by lines of symmetry or rotational order

by whether they are convex or concave.

regular  =  same length for each side or irregular

  6. Number of sides

    Convexity

    Symetry

    Miscellaneous
