  1. One of the most important skills, that is often not discussed when speaking of teacher leadership, is the ability to develop consultant skills so that he or she can be proactive in creating good programs for kids. Often this aspect is neglected, which results in warring camps or refusal to implement the IEP.

All to often, teachers are told what to do without any relationship having been developed. Instead, the consulting teacher needs to develop a relationship with the teacher and try to understand the difficulties he or she having. Once this happens, the two teachers can sit down and brain storm the ways in which the IEP can be implemented and determine the kinds of assistance that teacher will need to implement the IEP.

I have worked as a behavior analyst for 7 years in my school district. It took me a couple of years of writing behavior intervention plans that no one followed before I realized that I had to develop consultant skills in order to get people to do as I wanted. I often succeed where others fail because of this practice.

  2. im not sure i get your question but heres a thought treat them like any other kid they will think more highly of you

  3. be patient and teacher leadership should also follow what is recommended or stated..

i say this becuase my daughter is on an IEP(individual educational plan) the reading teacher folllows, but the teacher does not. when the teacher does not follow the childs recommeneded needs from special ed then the child suffers.
