  1. i have this, i try to stick to my meds, go to therapy(dbt as well), and work on one symptom at a time and change it, its not easy but its one way of doing it, i have changed a few symptoms doing this, just pick a symptom and force yourself to change it, its not easy but will work if you are determined to get rid of it

  2. You can't "get around" it. It is part of who you are. You need to accept yourself as you are, only then can you learn to live with it. This does not mean that its OK do indulge in your symptoms.

I have BPD as well and I had to accept that I am different from most people, and work with my disorder not against it. There are times that I have to do the opposite to my urges, but I've learned to know when to do so. Borderlines tend to be more sensitive to things than others are, and we can have a great deal of empathy for people and living things.

Borderlines are also very perceptive and can generally "read" people quite well.

Once you've realized that BPD  actually makes you unique and special, you can accept your disorder and live with it more easily.

I have been in DBT for a while now and I've gotten to know quite a few people. Oddly enough, I find I can get along with most borderlines than I get along with so-called "normal" people.

Getting around something implies avoidance. If you do that, you'll be denying yourself, the worst thing you can do. Think about it.

  3. there is no way around health problems seeking a good professional to advise you of medications available to help you would be a start

  4. Hey there,

I have BPD too and the best way I have coped with it is by reading about the condition through books such as "get me outta here" by rachael Reiland and others such as lost in the mirror to help me understand the condition and the symptoms and how people with BPD show these symptoms or traits. By doing this I could see my own borderline traits and could then work on trying to change them for the better and also helped me see that this condition isn't entirely my fault.

I also do think that working with as many support systems as you can such as gps, CPN's, social workers, psychiatrists etc do help too along with medication if it is needed.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix and these traits are part of you too and are things you have developed your whole life and will take time to change if you want them too. Just remember there is nothing wrong with you or anyone borderline, its just we have some harmful traits in our personalities that we need to be ware off.

    best of luck
