What are ways to sustain any new habit?

I seem to just give up, or not be able to re-start when there is some kind of a break eg. not feeling well. Whether it be a new exercise scehdule (just half hour a day everyday) or a decision to study an hour a day or to employ another new habit. I give up in a few days. I can't seem to "sustain". How do people keep doing something day in and day out? I am amazed at their consistency.

  1. A lot of it is motivation.  But some of it is just doing it, even when you don't want to.  You have to force yourself to do it.  Slowly, it will become a routine and be easier and easier to "force" yourself to do it.

  2. You have to stay motivated

If you just give up there's no point to anything

Life's about doing things, even the ones you don't want to do.

You have to try to keep yourself motivated, keep your goal in mind and use it to make yourself get up and do those things you don't want to.. for example for studying..if you study than you'll get a good grade and pass.. but if you just feel lazy and decide not to you won't do as well..and just things like that..you need to keep telling yourself what you're going to get out of it in the end.

If anything..try treating yourself after everything you do..like after studying for a few hours..go watch a movie or something

    I read these quotes somewhere:

"If it were easy everyone would do it."

"It takes a lifetime of victories to be a winner for one moment, but it takes one moment to become a quitter for a lifetime."

    I hope that helped =\

  3. Give yourself a reward EACH day you complete your "habit". If you don't, don't reward yourself, this will be a form of punishment. Sorry, but punishment is the only way to discipline yourself, or others :)

  4. A new habit has to be developed, it usually doesn't happen over night. When you get used to doing something it becomes a routine. Everyone has willpower, just stay positive, focused and be an individual. This may be clique but "Do what works best for you!"
