What are ways to tell if you are going north, east, south, or westbound?

..while you're in a car? What are some easy surefire ways.

I don't ever have that problem because I have a good sense of direction.  

But for those that don't, even number highways go west and east, odd number highways go north and south.  

If you are on the west coast and see the Pacific Ocean on your left hand side, you're going north.  If your on the east coast and you see the Atlantic Ocean on your left hand side you're going south.  This is an easy one....if you start out at the West coast and drive to the East coast...  you're going east.

With the Sun on your right, relative north is straight ahead in front of you. On your left, you are facing south.

If its sunny out. and you know what time it is.

North, in the morning the sun should be on your right, evening on the left.

South, opposite of north.

East morning you'll be facing it, evening you'll be going away from it.

West is the opposite of east.

if you are heading into the sun in the morning, you are going east and north is to your left and south is to your right. Vice versa for heading away from the sun in the morning or if it's evening.

the previous answers are all correct but you did not mention if you were trying to follow a map?   if you have a map in front of you, the top of the map is always north (unless clearly stated otherwise on one of the corners of the map)

bit of trivia -

in the USA (and there are very few exceptions) if the highway has an even number  (ending in 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8), it runs east and west.   if the highway has an odd number (ending in 1,3,5,7 or 9) it runs north and south.   there is no such standard in Canada.
