What are ways to test polluted water?

I need a few ways to test polluted water besides:

-Ph test strips

-Water purity test

go to a green house there are water testing kits available for a variety of test,nitrogen,phosphorous,.In some areas even the hardware store may carry these kits .We got one for our son for a science fair project he was doing

There are chemical tests for just about any pollutant you can name. Most can be run in the field.

I do most of my testing by biomonitoring. By looking at the benthic macroinvertebrates (critters living on the bottom of streams), you can get a good idea of how polluted the water is, (sometimes) what is causing the pollution, and even what the source of the pollution is.
