What has humanity done to itself? For example: I have been studying for 14 years, (primary school, high school and university)...to be able to get a 9-5 job/career 5 days a week for the rest of my life. I feel so depressed with this...we bury this depression in watching movies, fictional books etc. we enjoy them because we want to be them..we want to live our lives not the life society places on us. What do you think?

  1. I think that you are right.  Unless you are delusional...life can suck.  Nobody knows what happens at the end when you die so they try to take their minds off of the inevitable by indulging in pleasant pastimes, like what you've already mentioned.  Those of us that despise beating around the bush and see life as it truly is, suffer the most.  As far as society goes, it controls our thoughts and actions.  It prevents us from knowing our "true" selves.  Since we need a lot of what society offers, we are never truly independent from it.  Therefore, we are never truly free.  Maybe that's what death is...true freedom.  Who knows?

  2. Depression is also a spirit.  Don't let it grow.  Then one day some one will say "Nowadays he worries for nothing, sees burden in everything, he is slowly becoming mad".  After this you yourself may come to know or realize that you have worried for nothing.  You try to catch the thief within you before it is too late.  Your life is not going to end within 2 or 3 hours.  Think of the poor people and suffering people. You are not suffering like them.  You life is in peace.  Keep this life systematic. Plan yourself to keep you in an entertained way.  There are many things, interesting things in this world to see, read and know.  Search them. Internet helps you a large in this matter.  The matter is, you must bring the spirit of interest in you.  First you start, do a little every day then you will find how it takes you. If you are not interesting in these things, then you may involve yourself in the social service.  What you need is interest.  There is a proverb "Where there is a will, there is a way".

  3. Thats what i feel. Some time I also want to run away from all these but ...

  4. yeah chelsey... i totally understand what you mean!!!

  5. We are given a socially acceptable way of life that we follow for the 'success' plan. Many people feel this type of depression post university and at the beginning of the 'dream' career they worked so hard to get and thought about for many years.  There has to be more.  Only each of us can decide what that is.

  6. our life is a part of the society."we" make up the society.so if you want the sciety to be different , do something different. "create" a different society of like -minded people.or join a group or cult that is more in line with your kind of thinking. thats how communities are formed and such communities live in harmony  creating their own sources and means of happiness.

  7. You have accepted what is expected of you. Do your parents work 9-5 for the rest of their lives? They have taught you all they know, but your soul is stirring for more. You may be more evolved than all those around you and it is time to break the mould step outside the square and chase that dream, you know the one you think you can't achieve coz it doesn't fit in with the norm. s***w the norm, quit your job tomorrow, get a backpack and explore. Or do it the way you dreamed of doing it. Just do it before you get to old, and dont be afraid of what they think, they will admire you coz no doubt they wish they could do the same thing. Good Luck.

  8. You need to know the science of happiness to master the art of living.

  9. we are first and formost, living our lives. after a while, you work at something, and you end up with what you were working at, but it doesnt seem like it worked out the way it was supposed to. i understand what you mean. i learned all that you just said at a very young age, just not with the experience to back it up. one of the biggest things about your description up there, you say that you have a 9-5 job. that is fairly normal, and is the old reliable type of job that will always be there. no offense to you or your job, but it is normal. it is the run-of-the-mill job. it might help if you tried doing something you felt a passion for. there are alot of people who say that they dont have a certain passion for anything. my advice for a case like this is to think back. remember your childhood, when toys and games were your specialty. remember your favorite toy, and how you felt when you played with it. do you remember that happy/joyful/content feeling that was there? try to think what would make you feel that way again. what would be something you would like to do, and would enjoy doing it. think back to when you read a book when you did not have to... what type of book was it, and why did you like it so much. when you were saying about how we all like to read books because it is where we want to be, other than in our lives. yes, a book can take you places, and make you feel as though you are there. but, that isnt always the reason we read the books we do. dont you think it is possible that we read the books that we do because we find them entertaining? honestly, if we read and wrote books that were about an abandoned child, why would we want to be them, or go through their life? what i am trying to tell you is that if you focus on your childhood, and your memories to help you find something you like, something you like to do, or even something that you would like to research. after you reach a temporary stopping place in life, yeah, it will see fairly pointless and like there is no chance of change, or deviation from the set course. there only is if you make yourself change it. when you can fix it in your mind that there are other options, there are. no, i dont mean that you can say to yourself "i am going to go be a millionair in the bahamas". i mean that if you can set your mind to think more openly, you can find worthwhile things in just about any situation. personally, i find great joy in knowing things. i like to know that i can think and apply the knowledge that i learn to what i do everyday. all i have to do is open a book and read a page or two of it. it tells me how the author thinks and, depending on the book, it can tell me what the author wants, and how they feel certain aspects of life. no, i cannot read their minds, but i can open my perceptiveness up a little more. if you walked out on the street, and saw a person carrying a little dog with a rhinestone collar talking on the cellphone very loudly, you automatically think of the person as a little stuck up, maybe bossy. people show other people about themselves by their facial expressions, their voice, their choice of words, just about everything, you just have to be able to pick up on them. i think your life will greatly improve if you can think a little more openly, and if you find something you like to do. i do, however applaud you for thinking this openly about something like this. it shows you can think outside of the box on philisophical meanings, but try applying it to your every day life. it may help if you find a way to show yourself the good in things, rather than the bad... as my father says- you have to have the bad with the good, so you can appreciate the good when it is present...

if i sounded rude, i didnt mean to, i am trying to show you a better way to go through life... it may not help you to know, but i am 13. since you asked the question at all, i assume you dont care about age though. on the other hand, it might help you to know that a 13 year old can come up with all this...

either way, i wish you all the luck with the rest of your life!

    -Angel-
