  1. First of all, an electrolyte is a compound that dissociates (or dissolves) in water and has the capability of conducting electricity (acids, bases, or ionic compounds)  

    If a compound is compelled to dissociate completely, then it is a strong electrolyte.  Ex.  HCl (note that hydrochloric acid is known for its destructive abilities)

    If a compound does not dissociate easily in water, then it is a weak electrolyte.  Ex. HCN (hydrocyanic acid is not so much)
