What are weighted classes?

I'm wondering what the term weighted classes means in high school. Thank you!

  1. well at my school each level (regular, honors, ap) has a different weight on the gpa. for example if you get an A in an ap class it has more weight on your gpa than getting an A in a regular class meaning the A you get in ap would boost up your gpa more.

    it might be different at different schools though..


  2. Honors or AP classes are usually weighted which means they count an extra point or two into your GPA.  If you make an A in a regular course, it counts 4.0 points, an honors class A would be 5.0 and an AP class A might count as much as 6.0.

    You add up all your quality points, and divide by the number of classes you have to get your GPA.

    With weighted classes, it is possible for someone to have a GPA greater than 4.0.
