  1. Hey that gives me a question...

  2. When it is pertaining to fish, the wings, or leads, guide the fish into the catching part of the net- I feel the same thing would apply to an animal trap - it would lead or guide them into the trap.

    So you see its part of the trap for shrimp and also others make fish traps with a similar set up. The wings or leads direct the fish into the main trap. Some have driven bamboo stakes in the beach at low tide in a W shape as the tide went out the fish were trapped in the bottom of that W shaped fence. Others are driven in a river angleing towards the bank, the fish follow the *wings* or fence into a funnel shaped opening into the holding pen or net.

    Here is what the wings of a fish trap look like, with different set ups;

    Primitive man used this on land and drove the animals into the *wings* or fence to funnel them into a small area to be trapped, netted or killed by primitive weapons.
