What are working papers and how do I get them?

I am 15 years old and I tried finding a job. The person I asked said "One thing you should take care of if you haven't already is to get your working papers. I would need to sign those." What are working papers, and how and where do I get them? What are they for?

I believe they are referring to a work permit.  When I was 15 you could get those from your local courthouse.  Either way, call your courthouse and ask them what you would need to have to be able to work in your state at 15.  I'm sure they will be able to direct you to the right department and give you all the information you need.
