We view DVD's from the library instead of renting or buying, cook our own meals instead of dining out, shop at Goodwill, skipped summer vacation, and today I decided to make Christmas gifts (cross-stitching). What are your tips?

  1. I've always been frugal and lived well within my means so have no need to make any changes in my lifestyle.

    Things you can do:

    * Take public transportation

    * Travel by car only when you need to

    * Turn down the A/C or heat when you're at work or asleep (I have a thermostat that automatically does so).

    * Buy things that you need on sale and in bulk

    * Stop smoking if you do and drink less

    * Dine out less

  2. I have cut out my cable and internet at the house.. I eat very cheap(alot of beans, pasta and potatoes and I track every dollar I spend.  I started making my own coffee in the morning to take to work. I eat off the dollar menu's for lunch and wait till I get home to eat dinner. I sold my mercedez and bought a car for 1,000 which also saved me about 100 a month on insurance.  I cut my cell phone plan down to the minium.  Also I live  by a budget and watch every dollar that is spent and plan ahead for the future.

  3. If you have debt ie. a mortgage, car loans, credit cards, student loans, you are wasting thousands of dollars in interest every year. check out this website www.freeyourselfofdebt.com . If any watch the 3 videos in the lower right hand corner, they will explain everything, trust me its worth the time if your looking to save money.

  4. we dont have cable... we use ceiling fans instead of the AC all day long.. we are on a writen budget... write everything down that you spend money on... you will be able to cut some silly spending out really quick.. i had a blockbuster membership and a gym membership...

  5. ~~We have given up eating out-healthier anyway! We have so far kept cable TV and our modem, and that is all our entertainment. We don't go anywhere, don't buy anything new, and keep trying to pay off bills.  I do surveys and accumulate enough points to buy my make-up and small appliances, drug store necessities. I only shop the grocery store perimeters, fresh veggies and fish so it's keeping our grocery bill down. I use homemade cleaners instead of buying pre-made. Healthier and safer! I read allot so I get books from the library. We keep out thermostat at 79 degrees in the day, use fans to be more comfortable, and open our home up at night. Most everything we've done is better for us and the environment, so besides saving money I feel like we are doing something positive.

  6. Have seen no change in the way i spend.i make about 1700.00 a month.spend 40 a month on fuel to and from work.

    my grocery bill hasen,t changed that much.gas is 3.89 a gallon here. up a buck from last year.milk is 2.99 a gallon again up a buck from last year.but then again.we own our home. so what I was paying in rent i put away.average about 400.a mo. we live comfortably own both of our cars .the wife works full time. she makes 8.00 an hour. She spends almost

    100. a mo on fuel. of course her monte is a hot rod  we did a lot of custom work on it. I drive a geo. And we have no credit cards. things haven,t change that much to make us change our spending habits.

  7. If you have Redbox rentals in your town go to their website and you can sign up for free movie codes on Monday and Wednesdays.

    I cook more of my own meals, started eating healthier, and drive less. I limit little extras unless I'm getting them for free or cheap. Not going to Starbucks as much unless I'm using free gift cards or their promotion coupons. I use coupons when shopping at the grocery store.

    I've started shopping at Walgreen's more for basic toiletry items. When using a Walgreen's coupon and a manufacturer coupon for items I'm basically getting items like toothpaste for free or mere pennies. I'm signing up for more additional trainings for work which means more $$ to put away into savings.

    I've always been a bargain shopper so I have no problems getting clothes and presents at reasonable prices.
