  1. Work overtime.   Got a/c at work and use their energy instead of mine while there.

  2. Beat WHAT heat?     This has been the coolest summer in Mass. since I can remember.

  3. When I lived in the tropics I bought pedestal fans - they seem to do a better job than ceiling fans and can be moved around.

When it was reeeeallly super hot (up to 42oC) I'd hang damp cloth (like muslin, cheesecloth, old sarongs) on the windows to cool down the incoming air.

We'd cook and eat outside on a little camp stove.  Like a mini BBQ.

I'd wear a bandana and keep it damp constantly.

Also handy to put some water and a few drops of essential oil - like peppermint, ylang, ylang, lavendar, whatever - in an old spray bottle (just clean it out really well if it had cleaning products in previously) and use it as a spritz.

I'd take the kids to the beach or the park in the early afternoon - it was always a few degrees cooler under the trees.

I'd also do all the housecleaning and cooking for dinner early in the morning before the house heated up.

  4. I go swimming.  It is exercise and very cooling.  Also, lots of trees provide shade and oxygen to breathe easier!

  5. I don`t have a/c ,when the weather is warm I throw open the doors and windows. So do the neighbours , wish they would also turn down their blasted TV !
