  2. I build my own solar panels from junk .have been doing that for the last 2 or so years now and run my home off of them . I have a few pics in my blog to give you an idea how to do it cheap . I will be starting to build my windmill from junk also and will take some pics as soon as i get going on it so that others can give it a shot in building there own and will give the information out free as soon as i put the plans together

  3. me nothing...are we suppose to do something? is there any other specy that is doing or did anything? why isn't god taking care of the problem,it's his property after all I m just a tenant here and the rent I pay IS expensive .

  4. I use canvas bags for every trip to the grocery store. If buy something at Walgreen's or Home Depot and I can just carry it to the car, I tell the cashier I don't need a bag.

    Save my used batteries and bring them to the hazardous materials disposal day when the local government has one each year.

    Buy mostly organic food and rarely waste food, especially meat.

    Built a compost bin in my backyard out of wood from an old bunk bed and chicken wire that someone was throwing out.

    In the process of planting native plants in my yard.

    Bought a Prius, and still take the train to work most days. Drive less aggressively, coast up to red lights.

    And much more.

    I drive my car to do one trip a week. My husband does the same. My family use the train.

    My husband only uses reclaimed timber at his work.

    We grow as much of our own food as possible.

    We use wood burning stoves to heat.

    We have insulated above recommended levels.

    We put on extra jumpers and do not put wood burning stoves on from April to Late September.

    We have door closures on 'warmed' rooms and only heat two rooms in Winter.

    We plant Permaculture Style so never water plants.

    Compost all green waste, all bones. Animals eat any scraps. We recycle all glass at the bottle bank. We have Council collections for plastics, paper, tins. We use twigs on fire.

    All our light bulbs are low energy. We usually use bees wax candles as they smell better.

    We are lucky most of our rooms are dual aspect so we do not put the lights on during summer.

    We have solar lights around outside which are very bright during the night in summer.

    We have an engineering brick in our cistern. Never been a problem with it crumbling.

    We use eco balls for washing and line dry summer and winter.

    We have a septic tank. Functions perfectly biologically

    We have never bought a newspaper. Never buy magazines. We have stopped all junk mail.

    We use the computer for all correspondence, notes, study, 'phone calls' etc.

    We unplug/switch off what we are not using.

    I have very few clothes, only one item each of basic makeup. 2 handbags.

    I try not to buy anything unless the previous item is unrepairable or worn out.

    I try to replace items with second hand goods from car boot sale. Often these are brand new.

    My husband has still has lots of tools, fishing gear, outdoor gear from years ago.

    We unplug/switch off what we are not using.

    We don't buy Stuff (CDs, videos, ornaments) other than books. Many of our books are second hand.

    We try to teach our children to act responsibly. Try.

Before throwing anything away, I always ask myself if I can put it in the recycle bin, or if I can reuse it.  In my home, there's a rule that if a piece of paper still has a blank side, it must be used as scratch paper before being recycled.  I line my trash bins with bags from the grocery store.

    For the most part, I use canvas tote bags when grocery shopping.  I keep a folded one in my purse at all times.

    I usually walk or ride public transit to school and work.  I drive a gas-efficient car, and very very sparingly.  (Once a month or less.)

    I've changed every light in my apartment to compact flourescents.  There's a line of lights in my hallway; I've taken out every other bulb.  I turn the blinds so the sun shines in so I never have to turn on the lights during the day.

    I buy in bulk, or items with considerably less packaging, or packaging made from recycled materials.  I try to buy from local farmers as much as possible.

    I exchange and buy clothes at thrift and consignment shops.  My sister knits sweaters and scarfs for me for the winter.  I also participate in community garage sales.  Whatever's left over is donated.

    I unplug my televisions before going to sleep, and only plug them in when I watch.

    I dry a good portion of my laundry on the line.

    I'm a member of the Eco Club at school.  We volunteer and inform others.

  13. I changed my light bulbs,  unplug my printer, plug it back on when I am going to use   it.  As well as keeping other appliances unplugged that I don't need.                                 . Started using my two bags for shopping. Recycle my trash.

  14. The earth was here long before me and will be here long after. It needs no help from me. What do you want to help the earth to do exactly? It pretty much is just content to spin around the sun.

  15. Lets see .. I recycle over 50% of my trash, I take public transportation,  all my lights are cfls, I wash my clothes in cold water, and my computer is on power saving mode maximum.
