  1. Living as lightly as I can. I buy used whenever I can, and donate, recycle, etc. everything I can.

Even used, I try not to accumulate too many posessions. That way I don't need as much space to store them, energy to maintain them, etc.

Freecycle is a great resource for keeping stuff out of the landfills. You can go to freecycle.org and find more about it, and find a local group.

I also try to teach my children and my Girl Scout troop about using resources wisely, and making the world a better place.

  2. Not only turning off lights or doing something simple, like cutting beef from your diet twice a week would help, but....

Actually DO something for the environment! Plant a tree! Go to your local tree planting organization and volunteer to plant trees. It's really fun! Sometimes they hire people too, so it looks great on your resume AND you're doing something good for the environment. I'm from San Jose, CA, so my local urban forestry is ourcityforest.org

  3. Unplug all of your appliances when you're not using them. It saves 30% MORE energy. Also, go vegetarian!

    Here's a few facts why :

        *

"It takes 2,500 gallons of water, 12 pounds of grain, 35 pounds of topsoil and the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline to produce one pound of feedlot beef.

        *

Because of over-consumption of fish, all 17 of the world’s major fishing areas have reached or exceeded their natural limits. One-third of the world’s fish catch is fed directly to livestock.

        *

70% of US grain production is fed to livestock.

        *

5 million acres of rainforest are felled every year in South and Central America alone to create cattle pasture.

        *

Roughly 20% of all currently threatened and endangered species in the US are harmed by livestock grazing.

        *

Animal agriculture is a chief contributor to water pollution. America’s farm animals produce 10 times the waste produced by the human population."

  4. recycle is no 1

don't waste water, turn it off when u brush, take short showers, conserve when you water lawn etc...

unplug appliances when not in use like the toaster, charger, computer etc...

make a compost of your food waste if you can. Try to use less paper by doing things on line like your banking.

    drive less or carpool.

There really are a lot of things that you can do! My suggestion would be to conserve and recycle as much as you can.
