  1. Eat less

    Drive less

  2. I switched to a car that runs on natural gas (methane). It's 85 cents a gallon to fill up and better for the environment, too. The money I save by not buying gasoline more than pays for the food. Wish everyone had one of these cars...!

  3. I'm taking the bus instead of driving; my goal is to take the bus at least 3 days a week.  I already bought a more fuel-efficient car that gets about 10mpg more than my old car.

As for food, I'm always looking for sales and I've started making more food on my own and buying in bulk.  I second guess everything I buy and decide if I need it or if I can make it for cheaper.  I analyze recipes before I consider making them, throwing out recipes that have too many ingredients that I wouldn't use everything of (i.e. if something calls for only a teaspoon of some seasoning i don't have; I don't want to spend 7 dollars on a seasoning I'll use once).

At work, I bring my lunch every day and rarely go out for coffee, etc.  Instead of going out for dinner with my boyfriend/friends, I invite them over and cook.  I also find boxed dinners (like rice-a-roni) and make those to bring to work.  They're inexpensive and you can add other foods to make it a full meal.  If we make burritos for dinner one night, I use spanish rice-a-roni, canned refried beans, and I have lunch from leftovers for the next 2 days.

  4. Drink more water; date more hungry men; carpool or take public transportation.

  5. Nothing different than I've always done.

  6. You can save money on gas by trying to consolidate your trips.  By that I mean if you need to go to the grocery, the cleaners and the pharmacy, for instance, make all the stops in one trip instead of three separate trips.  If your car gets bad MPG try to trade for a better MGP vehicle but I would wait to buy new for a few years until the electric or hydrogen technology starts to catch on.

As far as saving on food, try to cook more of your own food and resist eating out or eating at fast food joints.  You can also clip grocery coupons that are usually in weekend and Wednesday (in most cities)  newspapers.  There are also some sites that will provide detailed information on how make substantial savings on the cost of groceries such as:

  7. staying at home and not eating.

  8. Honda Passport scooter. 100 MPG.
