I just about fainted when I filled up my tank for $71 today. That's it, I'm buying a road bike and riding to work. What are you all doing in this crazy gas crisis?

  1. I haven't really had any problems affording gas.  Sure, I would prefer to spend the money elsewhere, but it could be worse.

  2. Not driving as much, if it is somewhere in town I will walk with a friend to get lunch or to the store for something small. To school or any were else we carpool and each pitch in for gas for that person when we are out all day.

  3. I charge my friends gas money if I have to pick them up, usually. Alot of times, we rotate our cars, like, one day, we'll use mine, the next, we'd use John's, the next, Jane's, so on and so forth. The main thing we do is each passenger pitches in a little so it amounts to alot. Either that, or we stay in town. I dunno, the more gas goes up, the less I get to drive, so that kinda sucks, especially when you're my age.

  4. I walk.  I buy from town.  I refuse to patronize Mal-wart and Stupid K-Mart (otherwise known as "K-Fall-apart Mart").  I ride the bus.  I have found a surprising number of things I can replace my big box grocery store items with local small community store products, and I keep local businesses operating rather than to send my patronage money out of the state or out of the country.

The best thing we can do is to switch over to PURE Hydrogen fuel, but then, everyone would be able to do what people have been doing for the past 30 years in this country who make their own hydrogen fuel.  OOOPPS... there go the gas stations and electric generating plants!!!  No need for them if you make your own fuel and electricity, which every homeowner or apartment renter can do!

  5. Lately, when I drive I practice "Zen Driving". I didn't think I'd like it but with gas prices the way they are -- and always will be-- I've started to pretend there's an egg between my foot and the accelerator. I try to anticipate red lights and stops and slow so I can avoid coming to a complete stop.

On the freeway I keep her around 55mph since this is the optimum for gas mileage. I don't fight or prowl for parking spaces... this uses gas!

The benefit of driving like this - saving gas, but also I've found it is actually relaxing. Let everyone else be P.O.'d - I'm cruisin'!

I also commute by bicycle - but I do that more for the love and the fact my city rocks for infrastructure for bikes - Portland, OR.  I know not everyone has it this good - and yet we could still improve.  It's also faster then public transportation and only takes a little longer than driving (about 8 miles) -and no gym membership required... with every pedal stroke I can hear a cash register ringing somewhere, but in the good way!

That rocks you are thinking about getting a "roadie" - you may even like the new "hybrid" cycles if you want to carry gear and be the ultimate urban commuter.

See you in the bike lane!  I guarantee that if you find a comfortable route you are going to quickly be addicted.

And I have no problem if you want to wear lycra... there's really no better sight during my commute than a fine woman clad for cycling!

Um... sorry Mrs. Nguyen... and Mr. Nguyen.  I'm married... not dead!!!
